June 16: Chesapeake
Well, the party’s over, literally and figuratively. And it is back to the vacation grind.๐ We left Annapolis harbor at 5:15 and headed for the broadside waves of the Chesapeake Bay. Peanut was not happy. But once we turned under the big suspension bridge, the angle changed and it was a decent ride. But sometime during this, the support arm to the davit holding the dinghy came loose so the dinghy was swinging wildly. Apparently we have a screw loose. ๐
About the same time, a freighter started gaining on us. Debbie replaced the screw in the davit arm and then came back to the helm. She decided she wanted race across his bow because we was “probably” going to turn. So she is asking me if I think we can beat him. And I am in no mood to play chicken with a freaking freighter! But she revs it up and cuts in front and he does turn left like she thought. Later she said, “We had the right of way.” Wouldn’t THAT look special on a tombstone?!
Sandy Point light was pretty far away so the picture is fuzzy. This is the lighthouse Debbie wanted to buy years ago when it was for sale for $30,000. Downside is you have to maintain it in its original condition and that can’t be easy or cheap. If you zoom in, you can see scaffolding all the way around it.
The rest of the ride was pleasant. Peanut came out of the litter box enclosure where he hides when he’s scared and I read a book. We arrived in Chesapeake City before noon. We are staying in a cool marina with a huge restaurant and inn. A monsoon hit shortly after we tied up. After it passed, it was 20 degrees colder! But we did a walk around the town anyway and came back to the boat. At 4 we are headed to the restaurant for a Hazy then we will grill burgers!
There is an old boat here that we saw in Hilton Head. Somehow they caught up to us!
Plan is to leave 5 am tomorrow to get to Cape May, New Jersey. It is supposed to be pretty windy so wish us luck and accept any collect calls from Peanut.

You tell Peanut he can call anytime. Can’t believe you will be in NJ tomorrow.
