June 25: New Hampshire
We pulled away from the dock before 5 am and the flags were standing out so I was worried it would be a very long day. But once we got offshore, the wind pushed us along and it was an extremely pleasant ride.
Gaffer got bored part of the way through so I let him use my iPad.
Debbie dodged lobster traps and I made lunch. We pulled into New Hampshire around 2:00 after covering nearly 100 miles. The cats joined us in the flybridge for a few minutes until Peanut got scared and Gaffer went out of bounds.
We are not actually in Portsmouth but a smaller cove called Little Harbor. Great marina with three loaner cars and a restaurant. We walked out to the old fort at the point (about 3 miles round trip) and back to the marina.
The fort has been repaired with white caulk so it seems really authentic.
We were parched when we returned. It is in the low 70s and we are out of shape. We got to see a chipmunk so that was exciting!
We went to the bar at the hotel for a local brew. There was a manager at the door in a suit with a name tag and he looked at us like we were Julia Roberts as a hooker in Pretty Woman. Two beers and a tip cost $40.
We are grilling burgers and planning a reasonable departure in the morning to cover about 54 miles to visit Kris and Catherine in South Portland, Maine. Whoop whoop!
