June 3: Hilton Head
It’s Saturday and do you know what THAT means?!?! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! Up at 5 and traveling by 5:45. There’s a low offshore giving us sustained 15 knot winds so we are stuck doing the circuitous ICW. But we decided to step it up a bit because it is even more distance than we covered yesterday. Our goal is to get to Hilton Head and spend an extra day there - like it’s a vacation or something! I’ll believe it when I see it.
Debbie just came down from the upper station to drive below because “It is freezing up there!” This does not bode well for Maine!
There’s a whole lot of nothing in this stretch of Georgia. We went for hours without seeing a single house or boat on a charming body of water called the Little Mud River. Another exciting place was Hells Gate where MULTIPLE calls for assistance were made from boats running aground. The channel went from 20 feet in the center to 1 foot of water on either side.
Once we passed Isle of Hope Marina, we saw boats anchored up and kids making mud castles on the shoreline.
At 3:30 we encountered a sailboat race across the ICW conducted by the Savannah Yacht Club. I suppose this was their initiation weed out process.
We finally arrived safely at Harbour Town Yacht Basin in Hilton Head, SC at 6:30. They had a bottle of wine awaiting us at our slip!
After more than 12 hours of travel, I’m starting to think Rob had the right idea.😜

Hang in there!! I’m sure the fun is just around the corner!! I’m sure Rob is wishing he was with you!! ❤️Vera & Terri
