July 23: Nantucket

Deb’s alarm sounded at 4:15. In the morning. After 10 days of not traveling, it was a rude awakening.

We left the dock about an hour later in crystal clear skies- quite a change from the fog we’ve had the past two days.

The ocean was pretty calm as we loped down the Cape toward Nantucket. We saw some seals but very few boats. Check out how the waves have sheared the dunes in Truro!

At Monomoy Point the waves were rough where the current collides with some shoaling. But Cattitude held her ground and we pulled into Nantucket around 1:30 after an 8 hour ride.

This is our first mooring. That means we are tied to an anchor in the water instead of being at a dock. The mooring was around $100 a night, a slip was north of $400 a night!

We started the generator for the cats and headed into town for the Cisco Brewery. We had a LOT of trouble finding the shuttle to the brewery. We can boat to Maine from Florida but we can’t figure out a 2 mile trip to a bar. Even the 12 year old cop gave us bad directions.

Nantucket is a charming little island of rich people. They have cobble stone streets to discourage scooters.

We were the last two people to make it on the tram to the brewery. Then we got there and they had a $10 cover because they had bands.

We stayed for two delicious beers and got back on the shuttle with a handful of people who coincidentally were from New Smyrna!

Although the really expensive food truck food looked good, we journeyed back to the boat for stir fry and our own beers with the cats.

Heading to Block Island tomorrow!
