July 30: Cape May

We were waiting for the wind to subside but we couldn’t stand it anymore. We threw off the lines at 9 am in a stiff 18 knot wind and a brisk 71 degree breeze. The Atlantic City inlet was white capping but so far offshore has been mostly long rolling swells. We knew we were safe when we were preceded out the inlet by a parasailing boat. CERTAINLY they wouldn’t take customers out and beat the crap out of them!😜

I want to take a moment to go ahead and call out the elephant in the room. That would be me. Until last night, we pretty much have enjoyed stretchy shorts and flip flops this entire trip. So weight has gone pretty much unchecked. Last night we donned clothing with buttons. These were my fat girl jeans and they were snug. I looked like 10 pounds of potatoes in a five pound sack. How in the hell could this happen?!?!? It couldn’t be the food, craft beers or complete lack of exercise. Debbie’s arms barely fit into her long sleeved dress shirt. I attributed that to the muscle gain from pumping the manual toilets. Seems like just holding on for dear life half the time would burn SOME calories. But on a good note, my copious double chin should reduce the risk of whiplash if we ever get to scooter again.

Speaking of which, we are heading to Cape May, NJ, where we will get provisions. The only produce they had at the Golden Nugget were lime wedges and maraschino cherries.

So we arrived safely in Cape May at Utches Marina. We tied up the boat and immediately hoofed it to the Acme Grocery Store. This is where the Coyote in Bugs Bunny shopped. We got food and some TNT.

We Ubered back and I talked Debbie into having a beer next door at the Lobster Pot. We had a Cape May Crush and decided we needed to buy some. Our bartender told us about a liquor store across the bridge so off we went. Two miles later we were back with a case of beer, two bottles of champagne and a bottle of Cosmo premix. That was today’s workout! More than 4 total miles and weightlifting!

We made hamburgers and beans for dinner and it was FABULOUS! Then we took the cats to enjoy the flybridge.

Step sons.

We have to judge  our departure tomorrow based on the current. Our initial assessment is that we will be able to sleep in until a 7 am departure!
