August 2: As Far As Possible

It seems like every leg of this trip is preceded by “We’ll need to get a really early start!”

I appreciate that we are going to have high winds for the next two days but it is DARK here at 5 AM!

So we left Annapolis in total darkness and inched our way through the crab traps to the main channel.

That is the MOON over Thomas Shoal Lighthouse.

So we are racing toward Norfolk before the strong winds get here tomorrow afternoon for two days. We probably won’t make it all of the way but at least we won’t have as far to go tomorrow in the wind.

While I was waiting for the sun to come up, I was thinking about the C&D Canal we transited yesterday. Did you know it was dug manually by 2600 men with shovels and pick axes?! All I can envision is one poor bastard digging with a shovel and 2599 others watching him.

Gaffer doesn’t like early starts either.

Seas were calm which was really good since we went 105 miles over 11 hours.

We arrived at Dozier’s Regatta Point in Virginia at 4 pm. I was whipping out the beers when Debbie decided showers and laundry were necessary.😳

So we are showered, the laundry’s in the dryer and the cats said it is too hot to be with us in the flybridge. The sailboat couple across from us are selling their 47’ Fountaine Pajot and moving to Florida. A little place called New Smyrna Beach!

Tomorrow afternoon the winds are slated to howl for two days. We have almost 50 more miles to go to get to Norfolk. My guess is we’ll need to get an early start!

  1. Looks so pretty in Virginia. I could never get up that early every day. More power to you both.
More people coming to our secret place-NSB….hope the winds stay calm for a few days!
