August 8: Wind Day
According to the Windy App, it is blowing 18 mph sustained with an occasional gust. We had anticipated that so today is a lay day in Beaufort.
The excitement actually started in the middle of the night when the boat started rolling and shaking, small hail pelted the deck and the Bimini top sounded like it was shredding. But it ended as quickly as it began.
When Debbie climbed out of bed at a leisurely 5:45, I asked her to see if we were still tied to the dock. Thankfully we were. And the Bimini appears to still be in one piece.
The marina here has a free loaner car so we borrowed it to go to the grocery store.
Unlike the houses here that sport a sign saying they are from 1849 and such, this vehicle really didn’t have any identifiers. It wasn’t locked so we climbed in. The transmission and brake lights stayed illuminated. That is when Debbie discovered her passenger door didn’t have a handle so I had the privilege of opening her door each time she got out. Dad used to do that for Mom but we had door handles.Any hoo, we made to the Piggly Wiggly to do some shopping. Prices were good especially if they were a “Squealer” deal. Sticking with the pig theme, they had salted pig parts in burlap sacks so they didn’t need refrigeration.
We resisted the urge to give that a try and opted for some beers and bread instead. We returned the car and bought some lottery tickets since we feel lucky to not be boating today! Then we walked the town which didn’t take too long. There’s a brewery that opens at 1 so we’ll give that a try!
The Fishtowne brewery was great. We had a nice time and nice along. We met one of the founding family members from Bacardi. They were taking their sport fish back to the factory!
We are cooking dinner and planning to head to Wrightsville Beach in the morning if the wind dies down! Wish us luck!

Now that looks like some tastee pork.
